Move beyond symbolism. Do one real thing.

Each 23 May, participating organisations choose, carry out and document at least one action, suited to their context, that creates measurable value for their destination. Here is how to prepare it, carry it out and share it.

The road to 23 May 2027

A day of action is prepared well before the day.

  1. Now

    Commit

Sign the Global Manifesto through the Adherence Instrument. Organisations that sign before 23 May 2027 join as Founding Partners.

  2. Before 23 May

    Prepare

Choose one action that responds to a real need of your place. Involve the people it affects, record a baseline and decide how you will evidence the result.

  3. On 23 May

    Act

Carry out or launch the action with your team, your community, your partners and, where it makes sense, your guests.

  4. After

    Report

Document what you did, what changed and what did not. Share results and limitations honestly, and build the next step into your long-term management.

Eight ways to act

Choose the action your place needs most.

The right action depends on the organisation and the place. These eight families of action come from the Global Manifesto.

  • ARestore or protect an ecosystem, habitat, water source, landscape or productive soil.
  • BStrengthen a local or Indigenous community initiative through funding, procurement, governance or capacity building.
  • CSupport living cultural heritage, traditional knowledge, language, craftsmanship or gastronomy, with consent and fair remuneration.
  • DAdvance a regenerative agricultural, food, fisheries or rural-tourism project.
  • EImprove animal welfare, wildlife coexistence or habitat protection.
  • FIncrease local employment, local ownership, local purchasing or reinvestment in the destination.
  • GCreate a meaningful guest participation or learning experience connected to place.
  • HPublish transparent baseline data, targets, progress or lessons learned.

Ideas by type of organisation

Where to begin.

These examples are here to get you thinking. Treat them as starting points, not requirements: the right action is the one your place actually needs.

Hotels & hospitality groups

  • Move a share of food purchasing to local producers, and publish the baseline.
  • Invite guests to a restoration day with a local conservation partner.
  • Open a paid apprenticeship for young people from the community.

Destinations & public institutions

  • Hold an open community forum on the future of tourism in the destination.
  • Publish baseline indicators for water, local employment or visitor pressure.
  • Recognise and promote local artisans and producers.

NGOs & community organisations

  • Launch a partnership with a tourism business around a local priority.
  • Run a habitat, coastline or watershed restoration activity.
  • Document traditional knowledge, with the community’s consent.

Universities & research institutions

  • Host an open lecture or seminar on regenerative tourism.
  • Publish a case study or a data set on a local destination.
  • Set student projects that respond to a real need of a partner place.

Associations & industry organisations

  • Invite your members to sign and to register one action each.
  • Convene a peer session to share practices that work.
  • Publish a collective summary of members’ actions and lessons.

Professionals & travellers

  • Register your personal support for the Manifesto.
  • Choose locally owned stays, guides and producers.
  • Bring your employer, university or destination on board.

Make it credible

Evidence over intention.

A single action does not prove that an organisation or destination is regenerative. It is a documented step on a longer path. Before you act, check it against the principles for credible participation.

Read the seven principles →

Before

Is the action additional to business as usual? Does it respond to a need of this place? Have the people affected been involved?

During

Keep proof of what was done: records, photographs, partners, quantities. Make sure no claim conceals harm elsewhere.

After

Report outputs and, where possible, outcomes. Disclose limitations, trade-offs and incomplete results, and plan how the action continues.

Share your action

Tell the story accurately.

Send a short report of your action to [email protected]: what you did, where, with whom, the evidence you kept, the results and the limitations. Documented actions contribute to the global programme of action and the annual report.

When you communicate publicly, name the initiative in full and link to the official page.
